Bridging the Employment Gap: CLOS, Gordon Tafe, and Northern Futures Collaborate for a Brighter Future

CLOS, Geelong's Gordon Tafe, and Northern Futures have taken a significant step toward bridging the employment gap by introducing a course tailored for those seeking a career in construction. The Construction Pathways Program is an initiative, powered by passion of the three organisations, not only offering a pathway into the construction industry but also for brighter futures for the residents of North Geelong.

The journey toward meaningful employment is not always straightforward, and many individuals in North Geelong encounter various barriers that hinder their progress. These barriers may include a lack of education, limited work experience, or personal challenges. Recognising these challenges, the collaborative effort has produced a course that goes beyond the conventional to remove these barriers.

The course is delivered predominantly by The Gordon, designed to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to kickstart their careers in the construction industry and lay the groundwork for a trade apprenticeship. It draws core units from the CPC20220 Certificate II in Construction Pathways, while also offering introductory electives in carpentry.

One of the standout features of this program is its focus on hands-on experience. Industry visits provide students with the opportunity to meet industry partners and gain exposure to various trade workplaces. This firsthand experience is invaluable, allowing students to develop a deeper understanding of the construction industry and its diverse opportunities.

Upon successful completion of the program, participants may be eligible for up to 7 units of credit toward apprenticeship study at the Certificate III level. This not only streamlines the journey into higher-level qualifications but also opens a wealth of career prospects in the construction field.

CLOS is dedicated to helping those in the Northern suburbs, partnering with Northern Futures at the beginning of CLOS.

The partnership between CLOS, Gordon Tafe, and Northern Futures is a heartwarming example of the positive change that can be achieved when organisations come together to tackle employment barriers. By addressing the unique challenges faced by residents of North Geelong, this program is creating opportunities and instilling hope for a brighter, more inclusive future.
